THE PAN AM POSTER ARCHIVE
BUYING & SELLING VINTAGE PAN AM POSTERS
Original, vintage Pan Am posters are increasingly hard to find and have become quite collectible. Considering that posters were designed to be used briefly and discarded, the fact than any survive more than 30+ years after the demise of Pan Am is a small miracle.
Pan Am posters are mainly bought and sold at eBay, online and physical poster galleries, auctions houses specializing in vintage posters, and aviation memorabilia shows. Click here to see posters available for sale at the Pan Am Posters store at eBay. Values range from less than $100 to over $30,000, depending on the poster condition, rarity and artistic appeal. Condition is very important, and the most valuable posters are in very good to excellent condition, with strong color and minimal to no damage.
Assuming very good to excellent condition, market prices range from $100 - $200 for most of the posters from the two primary series from the 1980s. Posters from the 1960s - 1970s typically sell for $200 - $600, although the most desirable posters from these decades can sell for $1000+. While some posters from the 1950s will sell for well over $1,000, most tend to sell for $400 - $800, assuming good to excellent condition. The early posters from the 1930s - 1940s, which are much harder to find, particularly in good condition, easily sell for $500 - $1,000. Some of these early posters will sell for much more than $1000. A few of the rarer posters, particularly the Lawler posters from the 1930s will sell for $10,000-$25,000. The highest price on record for a Pan Am poster is over $30,000 for the South Seas poster by Paul George Lawler.
Given the interest and demand for vintage Pan Am posters, there is a very active market in reproduction posters, as well as modern posters designed “in the style of” vintage Pan Am posters.
