Pan Am tapped a Peter Max to design a poster heralding the arrival of the 747. Needless to say Max's psychedelic 747 poster became an instant classic!
Peter Max's work for Pan Am was coordinated by Bob Davidson, Senior Manager - Creative Services at Pan Am . Bob retained the original blueprint for this iconic poster capturing Max's mark-ups and a note from Peter to Bob.
In the sixties and early seventies, Pan Am produced posters that captured the free-flowing easy going vibe of the times. Mostly one-offs, these posters fit the era either through subject matter, artistic design, typography and or mood. While not connected to a specific artist or poster series, the "Groovy Art and Logos" grouping definitely fit the transition from the 1960s to the 1970s when Pan Am brought the 747 to commercial aviation.
